A Case of 27 Dresses?

Hi everyone!

I’m so honored to be able to share my thoughts on my first BLOG! I will be posting short excerpts from my book from time to time, as I get closer to the release of my book!

Introduction

The dress fit like a dream; my hair was just how I wanted it and it there were only five minutes to go until it was time to walk down the aisle—only, it wasn’t my special day. I was just the bridesmaid. Today (as many other times before) it was my friend’s day to shine. It was my turn to wait.

I have attended 22 weddings—well 26 if you count the four coming up just this year. Being a bridesmaid has almost become like a hobby for me, an annual summer pastime as many of my closest friends will say, jokingly. I’ve been a flower girl three times, a wedding soloist once, and a bridesmaid seven times! If you were to compare me to Katherine Heigl’s character from the romantic comedy, 27 Dresses, we would come neck in neck for highest number of wedding attendance. I would just be the black girl version…

So, can any of you ladies out there relate? I want to hear about it!

  1. I found some interesting facts about the wedding industry a few days ago. Did you know that it is a $70 BILLION industry?! However, as much profit as wedding planners, bridal shops, tuxedo shops, makeup artists, caterers and the like, make from weddings, the divorce rate in the church, sadly is almost equal to that of the world. This breaks the Father’s heart. As nice as it is to have flower girls, a big beautiful dress and all the other things that go into a wedding, the most important thing is that you and your spouse are entering into a covenant relationship before the Lord. Marriage is a reflection of Christ’s relationship with the church. High divorce rates do not prove that something is wrong with marriages–God instituted marriage. Nothing that God establishes is wrong. However, for those you are still single and considering marriage, take this time in your life to truly understand the purpose of a godly marriage and ask the Lord to prepare you for that, before marriage comes. The enemy is attacking marriages and families left and right, because he knows that where there are no strong, healthy and godly families, there is no strong, healthy and godly society. I would encourage you single ladies, to continually keep in prayer marriages and families, that godly marriages will be an example to the world.
