How long should you date someone before you marry them?

February 4, 2011 at 12:40 AMFunny!… I was just talking to my friends about this- and I was telling them how I plan on being in a relationship for a VERY long time before we even think about engagement (and subsequently, marriage). Im talking AT LEAST 2 years. But I wanna push for like 3-4 years! lol Still, I don’t think I can make that call for anybody else.

Thanks for sharing! You’re right, I think it’s different for every couple. I have two good friends who are married now, but they dated for like 7 years! Personally, I believe that the Lord will send me a man of God who is established, mature, setted and knows what he wants. Then prayerfully, our season of getting to know one another will not prolong longer than needed:)

February 4, 2011 at 12:42 AMI agree with Rickyia…for me it will probably be in the relationship stage for a while before we decide to make a covenant that is supposed to last forever..knowing me I would probably give the man a hard, unknowingly, because I don’t play when it comes to things like this. So it might take a while, lol

February 6, 2011 at 5:14 PMHey Eunone! I like how you said, we should KNOW and not FEEL that the person we are with is the one we will marry. A successful foundation to any marriage should not be based soley on feelings.alone. I think we should do our “homework:” about the person who we think may be our soulmate. That should be in addition to much prayer, and godly counsel from our parents, Pastors and close friends who can serve as accountability partners. Your marriage is a wonderful example of that! February 8, 2011 at 12:51 PMI believe that age could be a major factor. When a person meets someone in their teens, one will probably be willing to wait for seven years or more because one has to include college and a person’s career. In contrast, when someone meets a person
in thier twenties or older, that person may not be willing to wait as long as 7years,or more ,because of the age and child -bearing years factor.

I like to hear the perspectives of those who are already seasoned, married saints:) I think you make a good point. It is a very real feeling and concern for single women who find themselves getting closer to 30 and still not married, myself included. I think it stems from the desire to want to have children early. Lately, I have had to retrain my mind to have a new perspective on this concern. Whether I get married in my twenties or not, God can still bless me with children if that is my heart’s desire. My Pastor once said that if there is no reason for God NOT to bless you with the desires of my heart, than He must be up to something. And I know it must be something really good:)
